When we create a custom website for one of our clients, we make sure it not only looks good and performs well but also gets the client noticed. On the front end of all our website projects, we plan out what we’re going to do to make the site’s SEO (search engine optimization) as robust as possible so that their destination or business gets noticed by potential visitors and potential customers.
In a recent article, Mediaboom—a marketing agency that works with hotels, resorts, and travel brands—highlighted more than a dozen key strategies travel organizations and business can use to boost the SEO on their websites.
Let’s look at eight of the easiest, most effective strategies your business can implement.
- Make sure your website is clean and easy to navigate—modern, visually appealing websites payoff from more than an aesthetic perspective.
- Research relevant keywords about your destination or business as well as travel-related keywords in general, but don’t overload your site with them.
- Create high-quality, informative content that users are searching for.
- Emphasize mobile-friendly design, as more than half of web traffic (much more, for some of our sites) comes from mobile devices.
- Nobody wants to wait for a slow website: Use free tools like Google PageSpeed Insights to check your load times and see how you can improve.
- Add structured data (or schema) like events, ratings, or even pricing so that search engines have more details to pull about your site in the results.
- Drive traffic to your site from your other marketing channels—this might sound obvious, but make sure you’re using social media, e-newsletters, and any other avenues to direct traffic to your site
- If your organization or business has a physical location, claim your Google Business Profile so you’re easier to find on Search and Maps
